USAfrica Harvest of Views about the Cardinal Exclusive to USAfricaonline.com
With the Easter weekend visit to Houston and Atlanta by Francis Cardinal Arinze, USAfrica explores the views of some who know him or hold some views about him (Additional views should be e-mailed to news@usafricaonline.com) for publication. One major member of the African community’s Roman Catholic community who has known the Cardinal at a close personal range for well over 30 years is Romanus Muoneke. “He ordained me as Catholic priest in 1974.” Muoneke, reverend father of the Roman Catholic church in Houston-Galveston diocese and contributing editor of USAfrica The Newspaper on religion and ethics says “He's a very decent and intelligent man. He's very responsible and thinks about issues which benefit all mankind. The Pope visited Nigeria and picked him. He is a bridge for Christians and non-Christians. On his part, Dr. J.O.S Okeke, chairman of the World Igbo Congress told USAfrica The Newspaper that he invited the Cardinal to Houston for this special visit in recognition of His Eminence's unique position in the Catholic Church. “I'm not Catholic but his position and roles are very significant. What more can one wish for? Let's accentuate any positive elements we have.” He affirmed to USAfrica The Newspaper that Arinze “is one of such positive persons.” Nick ekwunife Muoneke, professor of Mathematics the Prairie View A&M University, informed USAfricaonline.com that “I've known of him since 1962. What I find remarkable about him is the fact he's an extremely intelligent man and highly eloquent in his delivery of the gospel. He notes “he's both a traditional and religious leader.” Prince Anujulu, a member of the host committee for cardinal Arinze’s visit told USAfrica The Newspaper that “this Easter will be a very special one for my family and our entire community. Cardinal Arinze is not accomplished but he’s a perfect example of a man who offers service to mankind without being noisy about it. I admire and respect His Eminence.” Aloy Obiechina, a member of the Catholic congregation in Houston informed USAfrica “we’re blessed to have such a man of high achievement with us. He’s one of the most significant personalities and religious leaders we’ve ever seen. We wish him all the very best.” Back to: |
