ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! by THE CONGRESS ON CHRISTIAN ETHICS IN NIGERIA (COCEN)

USAfrica's Advertiser's Announcement

  • We are proud to be Nigerians, but we regret that much of the rest of the world sees us as corrupt.
  • We remember with pride the character qualities of Nigerians of past generations, but we are not happy that many of those qualities are more rare today.
  • We know there are millions of strongly moral-minded Nigerians, but we are sorry their voices are often silent.
  • In short, we are tired of the moral mess in this country, and we believe ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

We are THE CONGRESS ON CHRISTIAN ETHICS IN NIGERIA (COCEN)

We believe there are solutions to our national problems of in discipline and corruption, and we are out to see that they are applied WITHOUT FURTHER DELAY.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The Congress on Christian Ethics in Nigeria (COCEN) is planned as a general gathering of concerned Christians in Nigeria to agree on united action to arrest the flood of ethical corruption inundating Nigerian society. The Congress will produce the NIGERIA COVENANT--a powerful pledge and tool for halting Nigeria's downward moral spiral and turning it to scriptural ethics.

    OUR GOALS:

    1. To bring together concerned Christian leaders in Nigeria who are willing to pay the necessary price for united moral action.
    2. To climax a two-year united prayer campaign among Nigerian Christians for national spiritual awakening.
    3. To educate the Nigerian Christian community on the causes and the cure for national moral decline.
    4. To unite Nigerians within distinct social spheres for the purpose of grounding the entire society in Christian ethics.
    5. To awaken Nigerian Christianity to the Holy Bible as the adequate standard for Christian ethics in Nigeria.
    6. To agree together as Nigerian Christians on ethical standards necessary in all sectors of contemporary Nigerian society.
    7. To establish the NIGERIA COVENANT as a tool for galvanizing Nigerian Christians into a united stand on scriptural ethics in all spheres of life.
    8. To establish means whereby signers of the NIGERIA COVENANT can be supported in their stand for Christian ethics.

    OUR AGENDA:

    1. Church Leaders' Conference, May 20 - 23, 1997
    Venue: Lagos Presbyterian Church, Yaba
    International Guest Speaker: David Bryant
Nigerian Speakers: Abiodun Adetiloye, Sunday Mbang, S. Ola Fadeji, Victor Musa, Benson Idahosa, Charles Osueke, James Ukaegbu, Mike Oye, Gabriel Ganaka, Yusufu Turaki, and others.
The Church Leaders' Conference focuses on national spiritual awakening, and on preparation for the November ethics congress. The conference closes with a day of National Prayer.
    2. Congress on Christian Ethics in Nigeria, November 3 - 7, 1997
    Venue: Abuja International Conference Center
International Plenary Speakers: To be announced
Nigerian Plenary Speakers: To be announced
Selection of approximately 2,000 delegates to be determined state-by-state between June 1 and July 31.
