One of the major aspirants for the governorship of Imo State, Nigeria, Barrister Greg Mbadiwe has started (delete the 'a') the international angle of his quest to lead the people in that heartland of gboland. Mbadiwe, son of the Dr. Kingsley Mbadiwe, late flamboyant wordsmith and legendary man of timber and calibre will address members of the (add 'African' ) community at the Hilton Hotel, Southwest, Houston, 6pm on March 2, 1998.

According to one of the leaders in the African community and co-sponsor of the Mbadiwe USA tour, attorney Michael Nwosu "It is important for Chief Mbadiwe to meet his people in the USA. Our recommendation implies that a trip to the USA is necesary to inform Nigerian citizens in the USA about his intentions and campaign platform. Hence he is here."

According to members of the 'Mbadiwe '98 U.S Committee' "Involvement of these group of people will add credibility to Chief Greg Mbadiwe's leadership. It will also add color to his ability to reach all areas of his constituency, and ability to build a consensus with the state and beyond." He will travel to the following cities: Miami, Florida, Atlanta, Georgia, Houston, Texas, Los Angeles, California, Washington, Baltimore, District Columbia and Maryland, Boston, Massachussetts, New York, New Jersery.

George Amadi Ejim, in a letter to USAfrica notes "We are looking for 5 to 10 serious business-minded entrepreneurs in each state in the United States who will revitalize Imo state and its industries. Mbadiwe intents to schedule special meetings with these individuals. Imo state needs such men and women who will invest in the future of the state". "Chief Mbadiwe, Ejim added is expected to sign a contract with each of these people hoping he wins the election as the Governor of Imo state, he will then assign the industrial development and revitalization of the state to these entrepreneurs". According to Mr. Ejim, the Boston-based Imo Economic Development Council Incorporated has endorsed Greg Mbadiwe's candidacy for governor.

According to Atlanta-based Attorney Charles Onyirimba, "it is absolutely important for the United States constituency to play a role in selecting our new governor. For Barrister Greg Mbadiwe to present himself before his people in the United States, is the first step to success". In the same vein, a Baltimore-based Engineer, Charles Okehie advised that "we should be careful in following the political trend of our state, because all we hear may not be accurate". Mr. Mbadiwe studied in the United States and England. Three major points of emphasis in his campaign slogan are : "Results! No more excuses, Imo resources abroad must be harnessed and do not promise what you cannot deliver".
