First continental African admitted into the 100 Black Men Inc.

After the successful event of the newspaper's Community Service & Business Leadership Awards to other Africans and Americans for their persistent commitment and useful impact on the fortunes of the African community here in the U.S and for the African continent, the tables will turn, albeit, positively for USAfrica's Founder & Publisher and CEO of USAfrica Imports & Exports Chido Nwangwu. He will be inducted into the 100 Black Men Inc. in July 1997 as the first continental African admitted as the member of the community-service based national coalition of Black men.

The influential organization which has presence in over 61 cities across the U.S has national members which include Andrew Young, Black Enterprise Publisher Earl Graves, jr, former Mayor of Atlanta Maynard Jackson, Los Angeles attorney Johhny L. Cochran, Richard Johnson, and a host of other Black professionals. (see USAfrica June 30 edition for story on 100 Black Men).

Nwangwu is a former member of the editorial board of the Daily Times of Nigeria, former staff of the Nigerian Television Authority, and currently columnist for Post Express newspaper, the Mail & Guardian Online of South Africa and a number of other publications here in the U.S and Africa, membership coordinator (African community, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, NAACP), and other community and professional organizations.Nwangwu

According to Nwangwu "The wider community is taking our efforts more serious as we inform our grassroots, and network business persons and public policy leaders through the USAfrica media networks. USAfrica will remain a positive, contsructive and definitive media bringing Africans and African-Americans to the same issues and interests of community service and strategic business networking with decision makers and entrepreneurs of African ancestry."

USAfrica Digital Media Networks has as one of its primary goals the bridging of legitimate and responsible community and business interests of all people of Africans and Americans.

USAfrica The Newspaper, as highest-circulating, African-owned newspaper and USAfrica online, remain the most effective medium and gateway to reach decision-makers, public-policy personages, business leaders and families within the African, African-American and other Americans with interests in our community.

USAfrica has been commended by outgoing U.S Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs George Moose, NAACP president Houston chapter Howard Jefferson, Texas Senate, Houston city council and international business exec Jim Kollaer.

According to a letter from Houston's mayor Bob Lanier to USAfrica's founder the publications contributions are "commendable...The idea that your publication seeks to bridge the gaps in American and African culture and business is very encouraging in these times of diversity among our citizenry."

  • From Atlanta, U.S former ambassador to the United Nations Andrew Young assesses USAfrica and concludes it is "a useful, informative tool for business and cultural understanding."

    Ambassador Perry says the publisher of USAfrica offers " fresh and different insight to the issues in our community and for our two continents."

  • From inside Africa, in Lagos, U.S ambassador to Nigeria Walter Carrington noted after having a 56-minute discussion with USAfrica's Founder said "your publication is a very valuable, necessary medium to promote business and encourage Americans to see Africa and Africans in a more realistic way."

    On April 26, 1994, former Texas Governor Ann Richards commissioned Chido Nwangwu as Honoray Texan in recognition of his services to the people of the State of Texas and Africans in the U.S.

    July 1996, the Texas Senate made a proclamation, S.P No. 1211 stating thus: "Mr. Nwangwu, founder, chief exceutive officer and publisher of the most influential newspapers serving the African communities throughout the United States...has been recognized for his outstanding leadership and achievement in his profession and industry....

    NAACP president Houston chapter Howard Jefferson describes USAfrica as "a good example of first rate journalism. It has very useful business, networking information and heritage issues that I enjoy to read. It's simply an enriching part of our community...."

    Kase Lawal, member of the U.S-South Africa Business Development Committee states "your efforts, dedication and commitment to professionalism are to be admired and commended. It is indeed rare to find these ethics in practice today."

    FIESTA Mart's president & CEO Louis Katopodis writes " USAfrica The Newspaper has accomplished the goal of providing professional journalism... It has been an honor to do business with you and be associated with your endeavors." Fiesta is the first multimillion dollar business to advertise in USAfrica The Newspaper from its first edition May 11, 1994. The corporation has been in the paper in every edition.

    FM 102's Ernest Jackson, VP of the leading radio station serving the African American community in the Houston, Galveston, Port Arthur, Baytown areas describes his business interests as being served this way: "USAfrica is our station's advertising link to over 75,000 continental Africans in this part of the U.S, within our broadcast range, plus a huge chunk of its African American readers who, like me follow USAfrica's business and heritage insights. The commentary is highly-informed. I like the writing; the style."
